About Chado
We call the Japanese tea ceremony “Chado”. Chado is also known as “Sado” or “Chanoyu” in Japan. Chado is a Japanese traditional culture and way for hosts and guests spending a mutually heartwarming time together over a bowl of matcha tea. The green tea used for chado is called matcha. It was refined into its present style by Sen no Rikyu in the 16th century. There are many schools and styles of chado in Japan now. Today we would like to introduce you to one of the most famous schools, the Urasenke Chado.
Why don’t you join us and enjoy a bowl of matcha?
Instructor: Yumi Meo
She started to learn the Urasenke Chado (Japanese Tea Ceremony) when she was a university student. She has learned it for 15 years and gets a certified instructor. She has volunteered at tea ceremonies and taught children at elementary schools in Japan. She would like people in the U.S. to enjoy tea and know about Japanese culture.
