We are excited to partner with Opera Carolina to host a community dialogue in advance of their performances of
I Dream, The story of a preacher from Atlanta.
This Rhythm & Blues opera, written by Douglas Tappin, focuses on the last 36 hours of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life with daydreams of his childhood and flashbacks to the early days of the Civil Rights Movement, all leading up to the April 4, 1968 assassination at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
Join us at International House – Room 204
Wednesday, May 2
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Free, but please register here.
Refreshments will be provided.
At the session, we will
- View brief pieces of the opera performance to provoke thought and discussion;
- Consider Dr. King’s life and the lessons it offers through musical expression;
- Reflect on and share what we’d each like to do to build on the legacy of Dr. King;
- Connect more authentically as a group.
We can’t talk about where we want to go as a society without understanding where we’ve been.
