この度，在アトランタ総領事として着任致しました竹内一之（たけうち・かずゆき）です。オーストリア・ウイーンの在オーストリア日本国大使館から赴任して参りました。どうぞよろしくお願いします。
Greetings to the citizens of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. My name is Kazuyuki Takeuchi (Kah-zuu-yuu-kee Tah-keh-oo-chee) and I am pleased to be the Consul General of Japan in Atlanta. I left my post as Deputy Head of Mission at the Japanese Embassy in Vienna, Austria to come to Atlanta. I look forward to serving and working with you.
1985年に外務省に入省後，日本では地域としてはアジア地域，テーマとしては経済，人権といった問題に携わって参りました。また，国際協力銀行で日本のビジネス振興に，法務省入国管理局で国境政策に関わらせていただきました。在外公館での勤務は南米，アジア・大洋州，ヨーロッパを経験いたしましたが，北米地域での勤務はこれが初めてとなります。初めてのアメリカを南東部の要衝であり日本との結びつきも強いこの地で迎えられることをうれしく思い，また身の引き締まる思いを感じております。
After joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985, I worked on economic and human rights issues across the Asian region. My duties also included promoting Japanese business interests at the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) as part of the Ministry of Justice Immigration Bureau. I have worked on foreign diplomatic missions in South America, Asia/Pacific, and Europe. This will be my first post in North America. I am glad that my first experience in the United States is in a location that is central to the Southeast and has such a strong connection with Japan.
ジョージア州はコカコーラ，デルタ航空，UPS，AFLACといった，全米有数の企業であり，かつ日本人の耳にもなじみの深い企業を抱える一大ビジネスセンターです。またハートフィールド・ジャクソン国際空港という航空の一大拠点を有するアトランタは，不夜城のごとき運輸・物流の中心地です。
Georgia is one of the largest business centers in the US with companies that are well known among Japanese people such as Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, UPS, Aflac, and more. In addition, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, helps maintain Atlanta’s position as a hub of logistics and transportation.
日本との結びつきも強く，我が国の企業も数多く進出し，デルタ航空は日本への直行便を運行しています。そして，州政府関係者や日米財界の要人が集う南東部合同部会がこれまで通算で34回開催されるなど，ビジネスの交流はなお高まりを見せております。
Georgia’s ties to Japan are strong. The state hosts a large number of Japanese companies and offers a direct flight to Japan via Delta Airlines. The 35th Annual Southeast U.S.-Japan (SEUS-Japan) Conference – a gathering of state government officials and key figures from the Japan-US business sector – will be held in Savannah, Georgia, and signifies an environment that I foresee will promote further growth in Japan-US business partnerships.
当館があわせ管轄するアラバマ州，ノースカロライナ州及びサウスカロライナ州は，ジョージア州ともども米国南東部経済圏を構成し，日本との結びつきも同じく強い地域です。管轄4州をあわせ1000を超える日系企業が事業所をかまえ，2万を超える日本人の方々が在留しているという事実，そして4州で20に届こうという姉妹都市関係の数に示される交流の歴史は，着任前からわたしの気持ちを高めて参りました。非力な身ではありますが，この南東部4州と日本との関係がさらに発展していくよう全力を尽くす所存です。
My office is also proud to serve the States of Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina, all of which have equally strong ties to Japan. These four states together boast more than 1,000 Japan-affiliated businesses, over 20,000 Japanese nationals, and 20+ sister-city relationships. Even before arriving, I was impressed. This information greatly motivates to do my part, however small it may be, to further my country’s relationship with the Southeast.
あらゆる側面において日本と管轄地域の距離を近づけていくことが総領事館の任務であります。その陣頭指揮を執る総領事として，友好やビジネスの支援，課題の解決における窓口となっていけるよう，皆様のお力添えをいただきつつ努めて参ります。
It is the mission of the Consulate General to bring Japan and the areas over which it has jurisdiction together in all aspects. I will do my utmost to be a conduit for friendship, a pillar of support for economic relations, and a problem-solver as the new Consul General of Japan in Atlanta.
