JAPAN IN THE NEWS.

“We are celebrating the successful completion of a national stadium that puts athletes first, uses the world’s most advanced universal design, and incorporates harmony with the local environment and Japanese style.” Prime Minister Abe joined a recent ceremony that marked the completion of Japan’s New National Stadium in Tokyo.  Tokyo Governor Koike and the stadium’s renowned architect, Kengo Kuma, also attended the event.  The stadium will be used in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and for Olympic and Paralympic Athletics.  Check out the New National Stadium here.

Visiting Delaware
Ambassador Sugiyama made a recent trip to Delaware to learn about the state’s strong ties to Japan. FUJIFILM is among over 50 Japanese businesses that have facilities in Delaware.  During his visit, the Ambassador visited their cutting-edge Imaging Colorants facility in New Castle, where researchers are creating the next generation of FUJIFILM ink products! Ambassador Sugiyama also met with Governor John Carney.  They discussed business and cultural ties between Japan and Delaware, including a longstanding sister state relationship with Miyagi Prefecture.

Christmas Cheer at the Residence

The Ambassador’s Residence was decked in holiday cheer and full of seasonal music during a recent Christmas dinner. Guests had the chance to hear Christmas songs played by the Ansonia Quartet, a group of distinguished young Julliard graduates. One of the members, Sumire Hirotsuru, played at the Residence previously as part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Members of Congress attended the event, including Rep. Doris Matsui, Rep. Mark Takano, Rep. Ron Estes, and Rep. Rick Allen.
