Yamamoto Masao – “Tomosu” Photo Exhibit
through December 22
Jackson Fine Art
3122 East Shadowlawn Ave NE
Atlanta, GA 30305
On display in Jackson Fine Art’s viewing room will be a selection of newly released silver gelatin prints from Yamamoto Masao’s ongoing Tomosu series, as well as unique ambrotypes, wet collodion plates varnished by the artist and floated within handmade frames. Tomosu, meaning to “to put a little light in the darkness,” evinces Yamamoto’s quiet interest in the human form and the natural world, and the ambrotypes’ process, reliant on chance, serve as a nice complement to the Richard Misrach and Meghann Riepenhoff works hanging in our other galleries.
Yamamoto Masao’s photography is known for evoking emotional power in the form of small-scale photographs. Yamamoto Masao (1957-present) was born in Aichi Prefecture in Japan and was originally interested in pursuing painting, studying oil painting specifically under Goro Saito. Though Yamamoto Masao eventually transitioned into photography in 1980, his painting background is apparent in his works’ painterly look, incorporating blurs and experimenting with printing surfaces; with many Yamamoto Masao photographs, he manipulated the silver gelatin prints through analogue processes such as dying the images with tea or actual paint and tearing them.

November 1
5:15 – 8:00PM (EST)
NC Biotech Center
15 TW Alexander Dr
Durham, NC 27709
As the automotive industry reacts to significant change spurred by government action, including the Inflation Reduction Act, the transition to EVs is accelerating and driving unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Automotive companies and suppliers must start increasing their investment in the new electrified future or risk obsolescence — and it’s essential to understand the impact this transformation will have on your business.
During the seminar, Plante Moran’s Mobility experts, Mark Barrott, and Doug Hockenbrocht will help you understand how your business approach, operations, production, and supplier management will need to transform. You will gain strategic intelligence and insights to help you refine your strategy, avoid risk, and find opportunities across the supply chain.
Our panelist, DENSO Manufacturing North Carolina, will discuss their considerations, opportunities, and lessons learned in NC.
This seminar will allow companies to explore the implications of the transition across the mobility value chain and will also dive into how public funding opportunities can help alleviate the investment need to transform.

Virtual Introduction to Ohara Ryu [3 Week Course]
November 1, 8 & 15
7:00PM – 8:00PM (CST)
Virtual
This class has 4 sessions, which are 60 minutes each. This class is great for first-time students, and beginning students looking to continue their Ikebana studies.
The Ohara School of Ikebana was founded by Unshin Ohara (1861-1916). Unshin explored the fields and mountains and tried to develop a style of ikebana to express the beauty of natural scenery. He also searched for ways to arrange Western flowers that had just begun to be imported into Japan and created a new style called Moribana. It is considered to be the first brilliant step in modern ikebana. Unshin’s sensational introduction of Moribana brought nearly all Ikebana schools to have their own Moribana style today.

Mobile International Festival

The Grounds, Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds
1035 Cody Rd N
Mobile, AL 36608
Operating annually since 1983, the Mobile International Festival has become the longest running festival on the Gulf Coast. We believe our success can be attributed to, in part, our dedication to educating students and the general public about the immense diversity that exists in our community, city, state, and country.
The festival provides the atmosphere of world travel, giving the opportunities to meet people from over 70 countries face-to-face, speak different languages, sample some delicious food, learn geography, history, art, social studies, music, science, and, above all, be inspired by our beautiful world and its people. The most important aspect of the Mobile International Festival is our ability to allow students to experience and learn about social acceptance, cultural differences, and unity. It is a place where we celebrate our differences and rejoice in our unity; it is a place where all belong and our differences are celebrated.
